Today we are going to talk about our Heavy Duty power wheelchair, the P301 Gemini. The P301 is a powerbase rear wheel drive wheelchair. Rear wheel drive meaning the chair consists of two sets of wheels, 14″ foam filled drive tires and 9″ foam filled casters. The P301 features a unique suspension system with a 450 lb weight capacity. It also features an aluminum footplate with flip-up height and angle adjustability providing various comfort positions. A swing back mount comes standard with the unit along with a Dynamic Shark joystick allowing the user to enter or exit the chair with ease. A programmable controller provides a wide range of selections to suit the needs and demands of different users. Height and width adjustable arms and 22″ wide reclining and swivel capable captain’s seat with an adjustable head and backrest allow the user to adjust the unit to their comfort needs. The unit is powered by two 12 volt 22NF batteries and includes a 5 amp off board charger. Charging the unit is as simple as plugging the charger into the joystick and flipping the switch. A fully charged unit has a range of up to 20 miles depending on terrain. Next, with the help of my assistant, I would like to demonstrate how to remove the captain’s seat and batteries. The P301 weighs 242 lbs with the batteries and 165 lbs without the batteries. Now let’s see some of the driving features of the P301. Question by Salvador G: ALS (Lou Gherrig’s Disease) patient do not desire mobility products as their condition progresses?
I have a hypothesis. The desire to purchase products for assisted mobility devices goes down as ALS in a patient progresses. I was wondering how you all felt?

Sometime it can be denial, that if they accept the devices, it is resignation to the disease. that they are admitting that it will progress further.

Or it could be that they have resigned themselves and think, “why bother”.

My mother died of ALS and was against getting devices for a while because she was in denial. She only gave in to help out my Dad who was taking care of her.

ALS also effects the emotions and who knows what that effect has on decision-making.
